01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Basiel is an extremely unique prospect with some high-level tools. He is quick twitch and explosive (6.68 in the 60 and 9'10" broad jump) while also swinging the bat with authority from both sides of the plate. As a hitter he has rhythm and natural feel to hit. He is athletic, comfortable and confident in the box from both sides of the plate with excellent hitting hands. He showed more power from the left side though he has leverage and pull side pop both right-handed and left-handed. Basiel event drove a ball into the gap in game play and used his speed to get an inside-the-park HR. Defensively he uses his quick first step and athleticism for plus range that plays in CF. Overall, Basiel has a rare combination of skills that make him a 2018 outfielder to follow.

09/25/2016 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Basiel is a tall, athletic OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is tremendous as indicated by his 60 time of 6.62. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he shows smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. Reads are solid and he works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he covers a ton of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with carry, and accuracy on his throws. At the plate he is a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power potential from the right side is outstanding with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Basiel has a ton of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
