05/09/2010 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Ben is a RHP with a tall, lanky frame with long levers that is well suited for his position. Delivery is sound, displaying solid mechanics that allows his arm action to work loose and free away from his body. He is fluid with good tempo as he works quickly. Fastball shows a range of 79-82 mph on a downhill plane with late life. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying 12/6 shape with tight spin and late sharp break. Changeup shows some feel for with slight arm speed run but lacks control and command. He has 2 quality pitches and attacks hitters as he throws a lot of strikes with his fastball / breaking ball. Coffman has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
