Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Rindge, NH Ben is an athletic C/RHP prospect who continues to show well on the diamond. Behind the dish, Ben shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to block. He sits in an athletic position and receives with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws with carry through the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth to load and hits against a strong front side. He works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, driving the ball from gap to gap with authority. On the mound, Ben separates his hands on time and works with a loose arm. He takes a proper stride and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Ben operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 85mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 74-76mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 72-74mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Ben is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

06/20/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (HS) Ben is an exceptional two-way (C/RHP) player in the 2024 class. Scouts were impressed with his baseball IQ, leadership traits and was a pleasure to coach. Behind the plate, his athleticism is on display. He has the arm strength (1.91 pop) and is on the bag with great frequency. Receives in a low and athletic stance and his exchanges are quick and clean. Creates angles in his blocking technique and can recover quickly. Working to replace his feet with his knees while anticipating the dirt ball, will assist his pitchers with 0-2 pitches and free 90 prevention. On the mound, he operates with a two-pitch mix. His FB explodes out of his hand (85-87) and has both run and sink. His CB sat 75 and can be used as a get me over and swing and miss pitch. Working on extension will help him generate more downhill tilt and stay at the bottom of the zone. At the plate, he swings with great intent to do damage. Has the bats speed (91 exit velo) to establish power and can spray the ball to all fields. Registers 4 hits (3 for extra bases) while drawing 2 BB’s. Overall, Ben is a great prospect and will receive looks for the next level.

12/27/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Rindge, NH Ben is a C/RHP in the class of 2024 out of New Hampshire. Behind the dish, he displayed active footwork when blocking with the ability to keep the ball in front consistently. On his throw downs, he worked directly in line with his target and stayed low to deliver consistent throw to bases. When receiving, Ben had soft hands and kept his thumb underneath the ball to present the low pitches as strikes. At the plate, he used an open stance with smooth timing to get the barrel on plane and work to a firm front side through contact. He squared up the baseball while exhibiting some gap to gap power. On the mound, he did a good job of gathering over the rubber to work downhill and create separation with a loose arm action. His delivery was repeatable which allowed him to throw strikes. Ben is a solid prospect who will continue to develop his game to work towards the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
