01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Sego continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. On the mound, breaking ball has really improved now displaying downward tilt with tight spin and late depth. He shows plus command with the pitch as it will be an out pitch at the next level. Fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph as he locates well inside on righties. He will pitch in, jamming a lot of hitters. Offensively, he showed better from the right side but his future lies on the mound where he will get looks from the college coaches.

06/20/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Ben is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound and at SS with a solid, athletic looking body that shows plus future projection as he continues to physically mature. He has big time potential at both positions. Foot speed is solid average and he will benefit by getting on a strict running program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He utilizes his athletic feet well in coming to get and playing ground balls with his feet and hands, displaying near above average defensive abilities in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 88 mph on the mound. His throws display life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Sego shows as a switch hitter with near above average abilities and power from both sides of the plate. He looks more natural from the right side but has plus abilities from the left side. He works to keep hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields and shows a plus feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He was 1 for 6 with a HR and 3 BB as he showed solid plate discipline. On the mound, fastball is straight but shows on a strong downhill plane creating tough angles on hitters. He was 84-88 with his fastball velocities. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying a 12/6 shape, tight spin, and late sharp action. Changeup shows solid feel for. Ben has tremendous potential and could be a plus two-way player. He has the makings to be a special type player that will get a ton of looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
