08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup. Power potential is outstanding. He tracks the ball well and has strength in his swing. Hands are work inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 7. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.27 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and improve flexibility to improve grade. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker with a positive attitude.

06/19/2017 - College PREP - Charleston, WV Ben is a strong, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.65 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner and improve lateral quickness. With 3 years to further develop, Ben has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
