03/24/2013 - College PREP - Union City, CA Blake is a lanky C/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Behind the plate, Feet are active, working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.35-2.45 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop builds more arm strength through a long toss program and improves foot quickness. Receiving / blocking skills shows as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Cheever shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He loads well with hands working through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side as he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fast ball shows a range of 74-78 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying 12/6 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound, will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 3 years to further develop, Blake has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
