11/10/2024 - National Showcase - Marlborough (Boston), MA Blake, a 7th-grade catcher and third baseman from Cape Elizabeth, ME, is a well-rounded player with strong fundamentals in both positions. Behind the plate, he shows excellent footwork with quick, efficient movements, tracking and centering the ball well. Blake works with a thumb-under grip and maintains a square secondary stance, consistently replacing his feet on throws to second base. His best pop time is an impressive 2.5 seconds, and his throws are on line. He also demonstrates good lateral range on blocks and keeps his chin tucked for solid technique. At third base, Blake closes the distance on batted balls well, showing great glove-side range and maintaining a strong glove angle. His short-arm action allows for accurate, online throws to first base. As a right-handed hitter, Blake starts with an open stance, taking a square stride and utilizing a smooth rhythm and hand load to make square contact. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields, with a top exit velocity of 72 miles per hour. With his solid foundation and plenty of room for continued growth, Blake is well on his way to further developing his skills and becoming a key contributor on the field.
