11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Blake is a long, lean two-way player who is a teammate and does all of the little things right. He can spot up on the mound, working to both sides of the plate with each of his pitches and working ahead in the count. He shows smooth rhythm in his repeatable delivery that has good deception with his arm stroke. He features a tailing fastball up to 66mph along with a 2-8 slider and a deceptive changeup. At first, he shows efficient feet around the bag to create good angles for fielders and to get to balls hit his way. He presents a big target at the bag and helps fielders out by receiving the ball well. Playing from the ground up will allow him to field more plays cleanly. At the dish, he shows an athletic setup with centered balance and a powerful load position. He works on a short path to the ball and shows line drive ability to all fields. Blake is an intriguing prospect we definitely want to keep an eye on.

10/21/2017 - FDI Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (14-18) Blake is a coachable, and hard-working player that made several adjustments to improve his skills during the Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, Blake has a squared and athletic stance. Blake does a good job of staying balanced through contact, and uses his back hip. To help Blake improve his skills he needs to be more consistent hitting the inside part of the ball. He stays on plane well but needs to continue to get extension through contact. The more rhythm Blake can create in his hands, the more on time he can be with his load. Blake will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/07/2017 - FDI Pitching and Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (14-18) Blake is a LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the FDI Pitching and Catching Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, this lefty gathers over the rubber well and works with a loose arm action, extending through on his release. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 72mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 58-61mph. Changeup ranges from 60-62mph. Blake can improve as a pitcher by tucking his front side later in his motion. Overall, Blake is a solid LHP who has the potential to further develop his skills on the mound.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Blake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active and he displays a clean glove but will benefit by presenting hands more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic/squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and works to stay inside the ball through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 60-61 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. He shows good mound composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate.

10/01/2016 - Pitching & Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Blake continued to show his skills as a pitcher at the Accelerated Training Weekend. He showed to be very coachable and worked extremely hard to better himself. Blake has decent mechanics as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time with a clean arm action. He takes the proper stride length and finishes square to his target. Blake shows a three pitch mix with a fastball, curveball, and changeup. He commands his fastball well and it shows good run and cutting action. His curveball shows 1-7 movement and his changeup shows good run and cutting action as he throws with fastball arm speed. Blake can improve his skills as a pitcher by leading more with his glove side arm and by long tossing to build up arm strength. Overall, Blake is a solid pitcher who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

09/10/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Blake is an aggressive hitter from the left side of the plate. He shows good balance as he sets up in a closed stance and takes a square stride to the ball. He comes through the zone with some good bat speed which leads to solid contact to his pull side. Blake can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more consistently, taking a more direct route to the ball, and by developing a load to improve his timing. Overall, Blake is a solid hitter and as a 2019 grad, has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

07/11/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Avon (Cleveland), OH Blake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the mound. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 61 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 break with sweeping action. Changeup shows sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

10/17/2015 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Blake works from a slightly closed stance and the plate and takes a soft stride that brings his front foot to a square position. Blake should work to control the bat more by activating the hands in his load as opposed to allowing the hands to drop as the stride/load complex progresses. Creating some rhythm and fluidity to the launch will be beneficial to Blake as this will allow the hands and body to work as a single unit. Blake does take a level swing and demonstrates the ability to stay balanced throughout. Letting the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone will allow the swing path to be shorter and also allow for greater extension through the baseball at contact. Utilizing the lower half of his body more will help to increase bat speed and will allow Blake to drive the ball to the gap more consistently.

06/16/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Charleston, WV Blake is a LHH 2-way player as a LHP/1B. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm sot. He keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 54-56 mph showing slight tail. Breaking ball has 3/9 shape while changeup has slight tail. At 1B, he shows active footwork and hustles around the GB. He fields the ball cleanly and gathers well. With the bat, this lefty shows a square setup with a solid base and good balance. He swings on a level path and drives the ball up the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Direction
3. Finish
Infield
1. More aggressiveness
2. GB approach
Offense
1. Swing path
2. Extension
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
