Official Scouting Report

  • RHPPosition Projection

06/23/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Frederick, MD Blake is an athletic RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Blake gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline toward the plate and extends through his release well. Blake shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 62-64mph with sudden 12-6 break. Changeup sits from 66-67mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact to all fields. Overall, Blake is a talented prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Blake continues to shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, presenting hands as he makes the plays. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, Fastball shows a range of 88-67 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/05/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Henrico (Richmond), VA Blake is a thin, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Blake has active feet, agile movements, and a soft glove. He fields aggressively, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy and momentum across the diamond. On the mound, Blake has good balance, a quick arm circle, and he separates on time. He gets good extension on his pitches, lands with good direction toward the plate, and finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Blake has a square/athletic set-up, good balance, and he stands in well balanced. He has a short/direct barrel, makes hard/consistent contact, and he uses his lower body. Blake can improve already solid skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
