Official Scouting Report

08/22/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Bobby showed similar skills at his last workout as he has done in previous. In the INF, Bobby makes routine plays and has average hands. He turns the double play nicely and flashes a nice backhand. Lighter / quicker feet and improved athleticism will help defensive grades get better. On the mound, both righty and lefty, Bobby has good direction toward the plate and he keeps his eyes to his target well. He repeats his delivery, gets to his balance point well, and is able to keep his arm speed the same. Bobby can get better on the mound with more strikes, better use of his lower 1/2, and with added arm strength. He is currently a better Pitcher right handed. At the plate, Bobby has average balance and good bat speed. He has a level swing, some bat whip, and flashes some pop in his bat. Hitting can improve if Bobby can avoid lunging, use more lower 1/2, and work the ball to all fields.

02/16/2010 - National Tryout - Freeport (Long Island), NY Bobby participated at the UA the UA tryout as just a Pitcher this time and actually threw both right handed and left handed. As a young, 2012 grad, he has about the same ability as a RHP as LHP. As a LHP, Bobby has a smooth motion and good arm slot. From the right side, Bobby is ok mechanically and has a good follow through. More aggressiveness from both sides, along with a looser front leg, and more follow through should help Bobby improve as both a lefty and righty. Offensively, Bobby has okay balance and he makes contact. He does a good job keeping his head still, and can work the ball gap to gap. Added strength and more use of his lower 1/2 should help offensive grades improve as he continues to grow and mature.

11/05/2009 - Pirate City Select Training Bobby is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player at 1B and on the mound. Currently, his foot speed is below average and he would benefit from getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but he needs to be more aggressive in coming to get the baseball and playing through it with his hands and feet. He displays a good feel around the bag, showing solid glove action. Bobby should also get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, and thus raising velocities. At the plate, Keating has a balanced approach. He displays strength in his swing, flashing bat speed but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential. We expect his grades to improve quickly with instruction and adjustments. The baseball jumps off his bat when he centers it. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 62-69 mph with running action. Breaking ball is average displaying downward tilt with slight break. With 3 years to further develop, Bobby has abilities with time and room to improve as he is a very coachable player, willing to make adjustments.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
