09/07/2008 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Brad is a catcher with a lean looking body that does show some projection as it continues to physically mature. Receiving skills are solid average through a low set up that allows his glove action to work around the baseball. Blocking skills are slight average and needs further development. Arm strength is near average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building arm strength. Feet work well through the throwing process showing good direction and raising arm slot will aid in more carry on throws. At the plate, Hestad has solid average ability and power. He keeps hands inside the baseball with extension, utilizing all fields. Swing path does get long at times due to front side flying open. Brad has ability with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
