01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Brandon participated in the UA Preseason All-America and showed similar skills as he did 6/09. He is a tall, athletic Catcher, who improved his 60 time from 7.50 to 7.30. Brandon has good hands and feet, and has life in his body. He gains ground behind the plate, has quick feet, moves well laterally, and blocks the ball well. Brandon throws the ball quickly and accurately to his target, on a downhill plane. Offensively, Brandon has good balance and bat speed. He puts the ball in play, and has some pop in his bat. With more use of his lower 1/2, and quicker hands, hitting grades can get even better.

06/28/2009 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Brandon is a C with a very good frame in that he is tall and athletic. Behind the plate, Brandon has life, carry, and accuracy on his arm, he has a quiet, solid set up, and he moves laterally nicely on ball in the dirt. Kimbrel would become an even better C if he raised his arm slot to throw more online, if he swayed less at times, and if he got around more on balls in the dirt laterally. At the plate, Brandon showcases a slight load, he gets into a good level path to hit, and he tries to hit to all fields. He would benefit from getting his stride foot down earlier, if he lowered his elbow before load to increase bat speed, and get more direct to the pitcher on his stride. Brandon will be one for college coaches to watch in the years to come.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
