06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Brandon showed as a 1B and on the mound for the first time at the event. He has improved his baseball abilities since the last time we saw him. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, displaying soft / clean hands. He needs to present hands more out front and work to pick balls out of the dirt to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he has improved hitting and power numbers through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has rhythm in his swing and is aggressive early in the count. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B as he makes consistent contact. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he displays a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.
