12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18)
Brayden is a strong and thick 2-way prospect that continues to improve. At SS, Brayden works to the ball and fields the ball in front of his body. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, create angles to the ball, and work from the ground up. At the plate, Brayden starts in a squared stance and gets his front foot down on time. He is a strong kid that makes hard contact to the pull side. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and rotate his lower half. On the bump, Brayden has confidence in his fastball and isn’t afraid to throw inside. He sinks his fastball, he has an 11-5 break on his curveball, and shows feel for his change up down in the zone. He separates on time with a loose arm action and finishes over the front side. Finding a balance point and riding his backside down hill will improve his velocity. Building arm strength will be key to his development moving forward.
11/10/2019 - College PREP - Midland, TX
Brayden is a RHP/SS prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Brayden gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Brayden shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph. Curveball sits from 64-66mph with 11-5 break. Slider sits from 63-65mph with solid movement. Changeup sits from 64-66mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Driving his lower half more can help Brayden improve as a pitcher. In the field, Brayden shows active footwork and fields in an athletic position. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. Brayden can improve defensively by increasing his lateral range. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He works to barrel up the baseball and makes solid contact. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Brayden improve as a hitter. Overall, Brayden is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.
11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City
Brayden continues to improve his game on both sides of the ball, as he is a very coachable and easy to teach player. At SS, he showed a clean and accurate arm, which works well for the position. Feet were active at times, especially on his double play turns, as he did a fine job of working around the bag and making clean throws to 1st. Offensively, he showed good rhythm and balance, as he kept his hands relaxed and worked them quickly on a direct path to the baseball. Utilizing more of his lower 1/2, by exploding his hips to the pitcher to create torque, will help with power to all fields. On the hill, this righty featured a low to mid 60's fastball that he threw for strikes, a low 50's curveball that broke on a 9-3 plane, and a split finger fastball in the low 60's which gave hitters a different look at the plate. Overall, Brayden is a talented young player, and with much time and still room to grow, will be exciting to track as he continues to progress.
07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1
This is an exciting young prospect with a physically imposing frame who continues to mature as a player and physically. Brayden takes a big hack at the dish with impressive raw power that has become his calling card. At the plate, he has a middle approach with a quick, direct path to the ball and good feel for the barrel. His hands stay active and he has a good bat angle that helps generate good backspin. On the mound, Brayden flashed the ability to work downhill and attack hitters with his fastball. He is aggressive in the zone with both pitches, making hitters beat him. Loosening his arm stroke will lead to more strikes and better finish on his pitches. Brayden is a physical player who continues to impress us and has a bright future ahead of him.
06/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series
Cruz worked hard on his game during his time in Lincoln. With the bat, he has rhythm and works back into a loaded position and waits for his pitch. Swing is short to the zone as he works to drive the ball back up the middle of the field. Loosening his grip will allow for increased bat speed which will result in more pop off of the barrel. Defensively at 2B, Brayden hustles into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will allow him to expand his lateral range in the INF. On the mound, this righty repeats his delivery well and attacks hitters. FB tops out at 60 mph as he throws it for strikes. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape and will improve effectiveness as he works to stay on top and follow through more. Cruz is young and still has a ton of time to improve his game and physically mature.
11/13/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City
Brayden is a respectful and hard working player. Offensively, this RHH shows a square stance with balance. Swing path is level as he puts the barrel on the ball consistently. Increased bat speed and more extension through contact will help to improve offensive abilities. In the MIF, he is aggressive with quick footwork as he comes to get the ball. He fields the ball cleanly and works in-line toward his target. Cruz also got on the mound and threw a couple of innings. He keeps his eyes on the target and uses his lower 1/2 well driving off of the rubber. FB shows arm-side run as he works it in and out. More glove side lead will help improve direction toward the plate. Only a 2020 grad - Brayden still has a lot of time to develop his skills.
