03/17/2013 - College PREP - Manassas, VA Brenan is a tall, lanky SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016 and shows promise at both positions. At SS, feet are active as he works around balls, squares up, and displays clean hands. Actions are loose, smooth, and easy as he shows well above average defensive abilities. He needs to attack balls more, play through, and increase foot speed to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry across the diamond but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Hanifee shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and transfer weight properly through his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with slight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sink / fading action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 3 years to further develop, Brenan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
