08/01/2010 - College Prep Super Regional - Blue Springs, MO - PM Brendan is a young two-way player in the OF plus on the mound with a small, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 6.90 60 time. Feet are active in tracking down balls but needs to work on taking better routes / angles to work behind balls to play through with momentum to target. Throws show accuracy but needs to get on a long toss program to develop more carry and build arm strength. Offensively, Schumaker shows a balanced approach, flashing bat speed through a long, level swing path with power showing best to the pull side. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-72 mph with below average off speed pitches that need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Brendan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
