07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 Bret continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved to near above average through a balanced approach. Hands work quickly to the baseball, generating bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel. He was 2 for 5 with 2 1B at the event. Pop times were in the range of 2.06-2.17. He showed a solid stance behind the plate displaying solid average receiving and blocking skills.

05/10/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Bret is a catcher with a thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and add muscle mass. Foot speed is solid average and utilizes his feet well through throwing process, working in a direct line. Transfer and exchange are clean and quick allowing his arm action to work freely out front. Arm strength is slightly above average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Receiving skills are above average through a solid set up that allows his hands to work around the baseball, displaying soft actions. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process displaying well above average skills as he gets his body down quickly, centering all balls. At the plate, Schilling has solid average abilities and power. Set up is solid and maintains balance allowing his hands to take a short path to the baseball. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Bat speed is present, showing a solid feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Bret has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches in need of a solid defensive catcher.

12/27/2006 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2006 Ahead of game for his age. LHH Catcher = great combo. Needs to get bigger and stronger.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
