12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Bayer showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Indianapolis, IN. Feet and hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly through fielding process. Arm action is clean with throws showing accuracy as he will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in developing more carry. Defensively, he makes the plays as he shows soft, clean, and sure hands. Offensively, Brett shows a balanced approach and is aggressive with balls in the zone. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered, flashing gap power. He was 3 for 9 with 2 2B at the event. Bayer is a very coachable and shows a strong desire to be the best he can be.

09/05/2010 - College PREP - Plainfield, IN Brett is a young, athletic, SS that will graduate in 2012. Defensively, Brett has good pre-pitch actions, he works low to high, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has an easy exchange, good feel on double plays, and he delivers the ball accurately with some carry to his target. Defensive skills can improve if Brett can play through the ball more, and add arm strength. Offensively, Brett has average balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He puts the ball in play and can spray to all fields. More direct hands to the ball, better extension, and more use of his lower 1/2 will help average hitting grades spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
