07/08/2012 - Select Training at the All-Star Game Brett is a OF/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 6.95 60 time. Feet are quick, aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Defensive grades will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate through a clean arm stroke but needs to build more arm strength / carry through a long toss program. At the plate, hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he uses his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 60-63 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and early break. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is developed. With 2 years to further develop, Cowan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
