04/19/2009 - College PREP - Yahapank, NY Brett is a young two-way player on the mound and at 2B with a small, average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is average and he would benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He needs to utilize his feet more in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Hands are playable displaying a soft, sure glove action. He has an idea with his feeds and turns of the double play. Defensive abilities are near average in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raise velocities. At the plate, Flansburg has near average abilities and power. He flashes bat speed through a balanced approach. He has some mechanical flaws that hare hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate. Hitting grades and power will improve with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows some arm side run through a quick arm action. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing average ability. Breaking ball and split finger are near average and need polish to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Flansburg has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
