Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Brett showed similar skills at the UA Preseason All-America as he did at the Team One South Showcase. He projects as a 2-way player at the next level with very good baseball skills and instincts. On the mound, Brett has good mound presence and pitchability. His FB is in the low 90's and his CH is a very good pitch. Brett has good balance, separation, and arm speed. He works down in the zone and throws strikes with all of his pitches. At 1B, Brett's hands and feet work well and he takes good angles to the baseball. He has a long, loose arm action, and makes plays on balls hit his way. Quicker feet and a shorter arm action will help defensive skills further improve. Offensively, Brett has good balance and bat speed. He is a strong hitter with quick hands and a nice overall approach. Brett has pop in his bat, and if he can work to spray the ball more to all fields, offensive grades can further improve. Overall, Brett is a talented Senior with a bright future.

07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Brett is a two way player on the mound and at 3B with a tall, athletic looking frame that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he does project only on the mound but has plus abilities at 3B and at the plate. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 91 mph. Fastball shows on a strong downhill plane creating tough angles and explodes on hitters. Breaking ball and changeup are above average and show potential to be quality pitches at the next level. Breaking ball displays an 11/5 shape with tight spin. Changeup shows a solid feel with late sinking action. Delivery is fluid with good tempo and hides the ball well. He shows plus command with all his pitches with a solid mound presence. Foot speed is solid average as indicated by his 7.34 60 time. He utilizes his feet well through the fielding and throwing process displaying near above average defensive abilities. At the plate, hitting abilities are well above average with above average power. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat. Winger has potential and will get looks from the college coaches and the pro scouts.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
