01/17/2025 - 2025 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Brian continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 2.44 range. Throws display accuracy with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential solid through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight into a firm front side.

10/09/2024 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic (2028) Brian Dougherty Jr. is a strong prospect behind the plate and at first base, with the potential to develop into a key contributor at the next level. At the Arizona Freshman Fall Classic, Brian demonstrated an accurate arm and posted a solid pop time of 2.3, showcasing his ability to control the running game and throw out potential base stealers. His defensive skills behind the plate are solid, and as he continues to refine his technique, he has the tools to be a reliable backstop. At the plate, Brian had an impressive weekend, highlighted by a long double to left-center field, showing his ability to drive the ball with authority. He also showed patience and discipline by drawing a walk and had a hard line-out to third base, which indicates good contact and barrel awareness. His swing generates decent power, and with continued development of his swing mechanics and strength, Brian has the potential to increase his power output. Overall, Brian Dougherty Jr. is a strong two-way player with a solid defensive foundation and the potential to be a significant offensive contributor. With continued development, particularly in increasing his strength and refining his hitting mechanics, he has a bright future ahead.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
