10/10/2010 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Brian is a tall, thin, 1st baseman with solid skills. In the INF, Brian presents his glove well, has soft hands, and fluid footwork. He moves athletically, shows good range, and shows solid footwork around the bag. Brian gets his glove down early, fields the ball cleanly, and throws accurately with life and carry to his target. Defensive grades can further improve if Brian can field the ball further out in front of his body, and avoid standing straight up to throw. At the plate, Brian has a square set-up and good balance. He has good bat speed, a level swing plane, and he can spray the ball to all fields. Brian has pop in his bat when centered well on the barrel. Hitting grades can continue to improve if Brian can avoid wrapping the bat and add physical strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
