04/25/2010 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Briar made significant strides in a number of areas since we have last seen him. From a speed standpoint, he improved his 60 yd time and his home to first time. His arm grade from 3B climbed from a 42 to a 48, as he showed carry and accuracy across the diamond. His body plays low to the ground defensively and his glove stays out in front. He occasionally stands too tall to throw which slows his momentum. Offensively, he improved his power grade from a 42 to a 45 as he showed some opposite field pop. His hands work direct to the ball without too much wasted movement. We would like to see him gain more power from the use of his lower half, as his legs tend to stay rigid and do not positively affect the swing enough right now. On the mound, he continues to show good balance and arm action, an indication that he has more velocity in the tank. He did not increase the 81-82 mph fastball we have previously seen, but his change up showed some more pitchability, as it was consistent with run and sink. More drive from his lower half could also give him a velocity jump. Overall, it was a good showing with tremendous increase in certain areas.
