12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Bryan is a big, strong player that played 3B and Pitched during his time at Pirate City. Since with last saw him in 9/09, Bryan improved his 60 yard dash time from 7.90 to 7.72. At 3B, he has pretty good hands and a strong, quick arm. Bryan had no glove errors and also showed a good backhand. With better footwork and more range, Bryan can improve defensively at 3B. On the mound, Bryan has a simple windup and good balance point. He has easy velocity at 79 MPH, and should have more in the tank. Bryan throws a lot of strikes, but will need to keep his front side closed, and throw on a more downhill plane to become more effective on the hill. At the plate, Bryan has good bat speed. He has strong hands and a short swing swing path. He improved his stride and timing during his time at Pirate City. With looser actions and by getting is front foot down sooner, Bryan can improve his offensive grades.

09/13/2009 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Bryan is a 3B with a solid frame that shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot speed is currently below average and he would benefit from getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get ground balls but needs to play through more with his feet and hands. Glove action is deep at times due to feet stopping as his body breaks down into the fielding position. With that said, his hands are soft and sure, just deep. Defensive abilities overall are slightly above average in the IF. Arm strength is near above average as he displays life in his arm. His throws show carry and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Goostrey has solid average abilities and power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a long swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he becomes more aggressive with his lower half. Bryan has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
