Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OFPosition Projection

09/09/2009 - Under Armour Fall Classic - 2009 Curd showed better nearly across the board at this event. His arm strength was slightly better, now up to solid average. He seems to be a better fit in the outfield (versus 1B where we first saw him), though he does need to work on his routes and angles. At the plate, he showed good strike zone knowledge and did a very good job of making contact deep in the zone - this allowed him to make consistent contact, and to use the opposite field well. Has potential for gap power as he gets stronger. On the mound, he topped at 74 - a four mph jump from what we saw last month. Three quarters arm angle gives him natural arm side life on fastball, but he struggled to repeat his release point - needs to work to use his front side better, and needs to finish better out front. Delivery is balanced and he is under control, so he has a good foundation to build on. Overall, a solid young player with a promising left handed bat.

08/15/2009 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Bryce is a young two-way player at 1B and on the mound as a LHP with a tall, athletic body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best at 1B. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active displaying solid footwork around the bag. He presents his hands out front showing a soft, clean, and sure glove action. He consistently showed the ability to pick throws out of the dirt, saving throws. Defensive abilities are slightly above average at 1B. Arm strength is slightly above average showing some carry. He must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate is where Curd shows the best, displaying solid average abilities with above average power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel. Swing path is long with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-70 mph. Slider displays a 1/7 shape with tight spin and gradual break. Changeup is near average showing average feel for pitch. With 2 years to further develop, Bryce has potential at 1B and the plate, catching the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
