10/21/2012 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Bryce is a tall, lanky OF/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Feet are quick / aggressive as he works to take proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and shows clean hands. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with carry but needs to work on better footwork to throw to get rid of ball quicker. At the plate, Newman shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are loose / quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load and use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-79 mph. Breaking ball displays tight spin but no real shape as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch more. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a solid feel for with fading action. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Bryce has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
