09/23/2012 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Calvin is a contact hitting, shortstop with good hands. Defensively, he has soft/sure hands, quick/clean exchange, playable footwork, glove-side range, and makes plays getting in an athletic fielding position. His throws are accurate from the 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. Simplifying the routine ground ball, and learning the mechanics of an approach will help improve his ability to secure the ball. Also, implementing a long toss program will strengthen his arm and allow for eventual carry to his throws. Offensively, Calvin has a square setup and uses the whole field. He showed an ability to square balls up making solid contact. Avoiding wrapping his bat, as well as working on his timing will help generate more barrel accuracy and more consistent contact. With these suggestions of work, we believe Calvin will be a good defensive SS/MIF.
