04/05/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Myrtle Beach, SC Carmelo had an impressive showing at the PreSeason All-Ripken Games in Myrtle Beach. He showed athleticism, speed and feel for the game, in addition to flashing very promising tools. He has quick hands at the plate with barrel control and it resulted in several hard hit balls throughout the event. He is most comfortable turning on balls with a pull-oriented approach. At 3B, Carmelo made one of the more memorable plays of the tournament with a diving stop and a throw from his knees to get the runner at 1B. He naturally reads hops well and has good lateral range at 3B to go with sure hands and an accurate arm. Carmelo also got on the mound and showed arm strength that allowed him to run his fastball up to 53 mph from somewhat raw mechanics. Overall, this is an exciting skill set! He is an intense player whose passion should help him reach his goals as long as he doesn't allow frustration to affect his performance. Carmelo has a chance to be a very good player and we are excited to see him develop.
