03/25/2012 - College PREP - Austin, TX Carson improved on his OF grade as well as his velocity during his last event in Round Rock. Defensively, he continues to show good range and has the ability to track down balls in the gaps. His arm strength continues to climb as he now throws 74 mph accurately from the OF. Offensively, He takes his hands directly to the ball, he maintains smooth rhythm, and he now sprays the ball gap-to-gap. Carson is still young and has time to improve as he matures.

06/16/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Skala continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Offensively, hitting grades and power numbers have improved. He shows a solid setup with balance as he loads well. Hands are loose and quick, flashing bat speed through the zone. He shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side due to long swing path. For grades to continue to improve, he needs to let the ball travel and work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. In the OF, Carson utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles to track down balls as he works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. He is not afraid to leave his feet as he will lay out for balls. Makeup is a plus as he displays a positive attitude and works hard. He made good progression both offensively and defensively at the event.

03/13/2011 - College PREP - Austin, TX Carson has average sized, thin and athletic body type and graduates in 2014. Defensively from the outfield he is aggressive to the ball and makes accurate throws with good carry. He has good footwork to the ball, tracks, and gets to all fly balls. He needs to smooth out his approach to the ball, loosen up a bit, and soften up his hands when catching fly balls. At the plate, Carson has an athletic stance with a short stride and good balance. He has average bat speed and has good use of the entire field. He needs to continue to work on keeping his hands high, shortening his swing path to the ball and, get better use out of his lower body. He has good speed and defensive skills at this time but he is young and has time to mature and grow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
