10/03/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Carston is a young, 2-way player that Pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Carston has a compact delivery, he repeats it well, and he keeps his eyes to his target. He gets good separation, has proper glove side lead, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. Carston can improve his mound effectiveness with a more consistent release point and added arm strength. At 1st base, Carston has soft hands and good footwork around the bag. He makes plays on balls hit his way, plays through properly, and throws with accuracy to his target. INF skill can get better if he can field the ball further out in front of his body, lighten his feet, and add arm strength. Offensively, Carston has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has quick hands, a level swing, and he tries to work the ball up the middle of the field. Added physical strength and more direct hands to the ball will help offensive grades further spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
