Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Casey showed similar skills at the UA Preseason All-America as he did in 7/09. In the OF, he gets good reads on the baseball and tracks it well. Casey has aggressive feet, plays through the ball, and keeps his head down. He works to get behind the ball well, and his arm is strong with carry. If Casey can avoid falling off to the side when throwing and work to improve body control, already solid defensive numbers can get even better. Offensively, Casey has good balance, bat speed, and quick hands. He squares the ball up well, has a line drive approach, and uses the middle of the field. If Casey can avoid flying open, and drive the outside pitch the other way, offensive numbers could improve.

07/29/2009 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2009 Flannery continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a near above average runner at 7.22. He utilizes his quick feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes and angles. Defensive abilities in the OF are now above average. At the plate, hitting abilities are near above average with solid average power. He shows a feel for the barrel displaying gap power. He was 4 for 10 with a 2B and 4 walks at the event.

01/25/2009 - College PREP - La Jolla, CA Casey is a 2B with a tall, thin body that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and does need to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in his approach on ground balls, playing through with momentum to target. Glove action is soft, smooth, and solid in making all the plays. He shows solid fundamentals with his hands and feet working well together, displaying above average defensive abilities. Arm strength is near above average showing carry and accuracy. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. At the plate, Flannery has solid average ability with slightly average power. He sits in well and maintains balance throughout the swing, tracking the ball well. Swing path is level, showing a solid feel for the barrel. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing and more overall body strength is developed. Casey has abilities and will be a solid player if he continues to work and develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
