11/16/2008 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Casey is a LHP with a tall, athletic looking frame that does projection as it continues to physically mature. He utilizes his tall frame in working on a strong downhill plane, creating solid angles. Delivery is fluid, good pace with direction to the plate. Arm strength is near above average and would benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and rise in velocities. Fastball shows solid arm side run and is heavy. Breaking ball is solid average displaying a 2/8 shape with big break. Changeup is below average and needs to develop a better feel for pitch. Command is solid as he is around the plate with all his pitches. At the plate, Tate has average ability with slightly average power. He has quick hands through a level path. He has some strength in his swing displaying gap power. Hitting grades will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Casey has potential on the mound and if off speed pitches come around, stock will rise in a hurry.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
