Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

10/17/2021 - All-In Membership - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Cayson is a 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame, with broad shoulders, stocky build with strength present and room to fill throughout. In the infield, he showed athletic actions, with active feet, and body control at baseball. Creates good fielding angles and works behind the baseball. Fields from an athletic/square fielding position with a clean transfer. Made accurate/on-line throws from a 3/4 arm slot, and an arm velocity up to 79mph. Showed good touch on his DP feeds. A right-handed pitcher, he has a projectible frame with long levers. He gathers over the rubber and gets his chest over his front knee. He separates his hands on time and showed a loose arm. Works off of his FB that sits 71-74mph with tailing action. Mixed in an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with good depth, and a changeup with some cutting action that he throws with FB arm speed. CB was best pitch during his bullpen. At the plate, he hits from an upright and open stance. Takes an aggressive hack with strength at contact. Gets his hands separated and showed a fast bat through the hitting zone. A short/direct barrel path enables him to spray balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 79mph during BP. With another year of development, we foresee this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
