06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Charles is a hardworking 1B/OF prospect who has a strong, projectable build and graduates in 2017. As a right-handed hitter, Charles has a square stance with a centered balance. He takes a good load with a short stride and uses his lower half throughout his swing. Charles shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path and quick hands. He consistently lands the barrel to the baseball producing hard contact. Charles has the ability to spray the ball to all fields and shows power to the pull side. In the field, Alex plays with quick footwork and agile actions giving him the ability to cover good ground. He fields the ball athletically and receives it with soft hands. Charles has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He does a nice job playing through the baseball with momentum towards his target. His throws are online with good strength across the diamond. Overall, Charles has a well-rounded game on both sides of the ball with good potential to take his game to the next level.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Charles is a solid, strong 1B who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 6.76. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft /sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally to both sides. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Charles has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
