Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

07/27/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Charles Kwong is a 2017 graduate who pitches and plays 3rd base. In the infield he fields with sure/clean hands, has efficient footwork with a controlled approach, and has playable range. At the plate he has a balanced and squared set up, nice load, and a centered stride. He uses his lower half well and has average bat speed for his age. During the games Charles was able to make consistent hard contact and showed a nice rhythm at the plate. On the mound Charles is an athletic pitcher with a nice fastball with late life in the zone. He has a good mound presence and good timing. He has a lot of upside on the mound and with a more consistent delivery, Charles has a nice future as a pitcher at the next level.

01/13/2012 - Arizona National Spring Training - 2012 (Pre HS) Charles is a tall 2017 graduate who is a RHP/3B. In the field, Charles has a quick exchange and uses 2 hands when fielding. He has active footwork and he stays inline. He is an athletic infielder who can easily make adjustments and wants to learn to improve his game. At the plate, Charles has a solid setup with his hands high and he has a small load. He uses his lower half at times and would like to see a more consistent approach. In the game, he had several big hits and he showed his ability to square the baseball up. With stronger mechanics and consistency at the plate, he should become a nice overall hitter. On the mound, Charles throws a good fastball for strikes and a changeup with good movement. He uses his lower half well and stays balanced throughout his delivery. He sometimes rushes his throws and needs to work on staying calm on the mound. Charles had a good camp and showed his willingness to learn and make adjustments. He will continue to improve his abilities in the future and should be an athletic player down the road.

12/11/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Ontario, CA Charles is a young, 2-way player with a thin, athletic build. On the mound, Charles has a long / loose arm action, he uses his body well, and his shoulders are level. He gets good momentum toward his target, his works quickly, and he finishes well. At 3B, Charles has sure hands, active feet, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He fields low, makes plays, and he throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Charles has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and a square stride. He has good balance, he is short to the ball, he makes hard contact. Charles is slightly better as a right handed hitter but shows abilities from both sides. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicken exchange
2. Play more through ball
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Separation
2. Balance point
3. Control
Offense
1. Bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
