03/03/2013 - College PREP - Austin, TX In Chase's most recent Factory outing, the junior catcher showed increases to his defensive game. He continues to sit well with a quiet body and relaxed glove action. Over the next year, finding even greater consistency to his pop times will allow this well built backstop to be an immediate factor next fall. With the bat, he continues to show square contact with his on-plane swing path, but can still tap into his lower half for added bat speed. We believe Chase is a good, young player that should have an exceptional spring season.

11/04/2012 - College PREP - Austin, TX Chase improved his foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times have improved as well as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.14. Times will continue to drop as more arm strength is gained. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He loads well and displays quick hands, flashing bat speed through a level / short swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

10/06/2012 - 2012 Team One Texas Showcase Almendarez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Receiving / blocking skills have improved to well above average and shows as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in the 2.35-2.45 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and improves foot speed. At the plate, hitting grades have improved to solid average through an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He is aggressive with power numbers improving as he improves barrel accuracy and uses his lower half more.

11/06/2011 - College PREP - Austin, TX Chase is an athletic catcher with an arm that holds some decent carry to second base. Behind the plate, he sticks the ball well and does a good job keeping the ball close when blocking, but needs to improve his footwork when throwing down to second base. At the plate, he has a short bat path and creates backspin. Chase's abilities at the plate should continue to develop as he learns to extend his hands through the hitting zone after contact. With two more years of high school baseball remaining, Chase has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
