07/27/2010 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Chase is a strong, thick, OF who will graduate in 2011. In the OF, Chase has good hands, he is aggressive to the ball, and he makes plays. He fields the ball on the glove side, finishes well, and throw accurately with some carry to his target. Defensive grades can further improve if Chase can avoid camping under the ball and add arm strength. At the plate, Chase has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has quick hands, a level swing, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Chase has pull side pop in his bat, and if he can shorten his stroke a bit, we could see solid offensive grades become even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
