08/21/2010 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Chase is a lean, Catcher / Outfielder that will graduate in 2011. Behind the plate, Chase has good flexion, he keeps his eyes to the ball, and he holds a low target. He has quiet actions, he gains ground well, and he takes good angles when blocking the baseball. Chase is direct to his target when throwing and delivers the ball with good accuracy. If Chase can loosen his arm action and exchange, Catching abilities can further improve. In the OF, Chase tracks the ball well off the bat and is aggressive to the ball. He plays his hops well and delivers the ball with decent accuracy. Defensive skills can improve if Chase can smooth out his feet, use 2 hands, and further strengthen his arm. At the plate, Chase has good balance, nice feel for the barrel, and gets good extension through the ball. He has a line drive approach and he can spray the ball to all fields. If Chase can shorten his load and throw his hands more directly to the ball, solid offensive numbers can further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
