Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SSPosition Projection

11/16/2014 - National Tryout - Marlborough (Boston), MA Mitch improved his ratings in his most recent outing along with his velo (74). He projects as a 1B'man where he works around the bag well with good direction to GB's. Offensively, this consistent hitter uses his strong/long lower 1/2 to show pop to the pull side. He gets good extension and he will see an improved swing with a more direct path with his hands and continuing to polish his skills. Mitch is a talented young player and shows signs of improvement each outing.

12/19/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Chris only showed at SS at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid 7.36 runner. Feet are quick / aggressive as he attacks ground balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Swing path is compact with hands working short / direct to the ball. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 9. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard.

02/17/2012 - Myrtle Beach College Kickoff Chris worked out well at both positions during his time in Myrtle Beach. At SS, Chris has good feel, he hands play well, and he moves athletically to the ball. He keeps the ball in front, he exchange is clean, and he throws with an accurate arm across the diamond. On the mound, Chris has an athletic delivery, good balance, and he breaks his hands properly. He has good direction toward home, he mixes his pitches well, and he competes in the zone. At the plate, Chris has a good set-up, a level swing path, and he puts the bat on the ball.

01/14/2011 - Pirate City Spring Training - 2011 Chris is a coachable, athletic SS with solid skills. In the INF, Chris has sure hands, active feet, and fields from the right. He works around the ball well, fields out in front, and throws with good accuracy and strength to his target. Offensively, Chris has a square / athletic set-up, short stride, and level swing. He has good bat speed, makes consistent contact, and has line drive power. Chris is a nice, young player and should continue to improve with age and maturity. Below are a few things Chris can work on.

Defense
1. Gain more ground
2. Quicken feet
Offense
1. More load
2. Added strength

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
