Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

07/27/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 5 Little showed in Cape Cod as a LHP/1B but currently projects better on the mound for the next level. His tall, long, athletic frame is well suited for the position. Arm strength has improved as he threw his best velocity on the mound, topping out at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-78 mph on a downhill plane with solid arm side run. Changeup has improved showing as a quality pitch, displaying a solid feel for with depth. Command / control are now well above average as he attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. At 1B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. He needs to develop better footwork around the bag and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Chris shows a solid setup with rhythm in his hands. Swing path is level and he works through the ball at contact. He needs to work on staying closed and keeping hands inside the ball to continue to improve hitting / power numbers. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be. With 3 years to continue to develop, Chris has the makings to be a solid college prospect on the mound.

01/13/2012 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Chris is a wiry two-position player who showed similarly in the infield and on the mound at Pirate City. Defensively, he preps, is sure handed, and makes the routine play. His arm is accurate but actions in general need to loosen. He needs to play through the ball more effectively. With the bat, Chris has a pretty good idea, he tracks the ball into the zone and uses the whole field. He tends to get wrapped which causes him to deliver the barrel a bit late. On the mound, his arm stroke is clean and he really goes after hitters. He needs to keep his head still through his delivery for mound effectiveness to improve. He shows projection on the mound and is a young, solid all-around player. He will continue to improve as we works to fine-tune his skills.

10/16/2011 - College PREP - St. Louis, MO Chris is a tall and lanky 2-way player that will graduate in 2015. On the mound, he shows command of the fastball to both sides of the plate with slight movement. His changeup is his best pitch with good arm speed and sink. He also throws a curve ball which will improve with experience. He is very young and has the right pitcher type body to continue to develop on the mound. At 1B, he shows good life in his body, good instincts to both sides and he gets in front of the ball. He needs to work on better pre-pitch preparation, stay low to throw and keep his hands out front more with a lower approach. At the plate, he has good balance throughout the swing and shows the ability to use the entire field. He needs to get more use out of his lower half and be more aggressive to the ball. Chris will develop more strength and quickness with maturity and hard work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
