12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Gurrola improved his 60-yard dash time by over two tenths of a second, down from 7.72 to 7.50. In the outfield, he reacted well to balls off the bat and did a good job of charging the ball. His exchange was solid, as were his crow hop mechanics. His arm was accurate, and he did a good job of staying on top of his throws. Can work to quicken his feet and actions, and needs to work on using his lower half more to generate arm strength. At the plate, he stood in well during his at bats. He can work to widen out his stance a bit, needs to reach a more athletic position at launch - will help to work on getting stride foot down earlier. In addition, he can work to stay level with his shoulders and use more top hand in his swing. On the mound, he threw his fastball between 66 and 70. He threw two different breaking balls - both his curve and slider had good rotation and sweeping action. His arm stroke was short and quick from the glove, which offered some deception to the hitter. His direction was good, which allowed him to throw strikes for the most part. Needs to work to lengthen his arm action, and will need to work to get his delivery in synch with his arm accordingly in order to generate more arm speed and velocity. Overall, projects better as a position player.
