06/06/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Christopher showed very well at the BF Texas Showcase. He has the combination of a strong, durable frame and the defensive tools to stick behind the plate at higher levels. He was as low as 1.87 to 2B and consistently put the ball on the bag. He also showed good hands and feel for the game in his receiving and reacted to balls in the dirt well. After a solid batting practice where he showed his present strength and a good move through contact, Christopher smoked some balls against live pitching – a 1B to LF that was 93 mph off the bat, and a 2B to LCF that came off at 90. Overall, this is a talented C prospect to follow closely.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Christopher is a solid/strong (5'10"/190) catcher who impressed both defensively as well as offensively. Behind the dish, he sits in low with athletic actions and sway. Lateral footwork is quick, taking good angles and working to center/deaden pitches in the dirt in front. Throws down to 2B are accurate and on a line coming from a quick transfer/exchange with pop times as low as 1.93. Offensively, this righty steps into the box looking to do damage. He has fluid rhythm, gets back into a strong load position and fires his hands generating plus bat speed. The ball explodes off of his bat to all parts of the field (exit velocity = 95 mph). Bernal shows his passion for the game every time that he steps between the white lines. He plays at a high level and leads by example.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
