  • 2BPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Chris is a powerful 2B that can swing the bat. He continues to improve and impress on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he has learned to use his lower half more effectively and is enjoying more power production because of it. He handles the bat very well, spraying balls to all fields, hitting behind runners and consistently making hard contact to pressure the defense. Defensively, Chris has improved arm strength and continues to prove himself a soft, sure handed defender with solid range to both sides. He is aggressive to the baseball, displays an athletic fielding position and has a clean exchange before making accurate throws.

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Torrez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.00. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls and moves well laterally, displaying range. His hands are clean and soft as he makes the plays through fluid actions. His arm strength has also improved but needs to continue to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Christopher shows a patient approach as he works the count. He makes consistent contact through a balanced approach. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. He finds a way to get on base and shows signs as a quality lead off guy. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and works very hard.

05/15/2011 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Chris is a young, solid, athletic 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2013. In the INF, Chris has quick / fluid feet, soft / sure hands, and he moves with good agility to the baseball. He attacks the ball aggressively, fields athletically on the balls of his feet, and his exchange is quick and clean. Chris has a short / quick arm action, and he throws with average strength and good accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Chris can sharpen the double play, and continue to add arm strength. Offensively, Chris has a tall / open stance, a short square stride, and a proper load. His balance is good, he has fast bat speed, and he keeps his hands inside the ball well. Chris makes good contact, he can drive the ball gap to gap, and he has late explosion off the bat. More lower 1/2 and more top hand can help hitting rise.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
