06/24/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 CJ is a young catcher with a lean, athletic frame that is well suited for his position. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.36 60 time. Pop times show a range of 2.39-2.53 as he will benefit from a long toss program and get instruction on proper footwork to throw. Receiving and blocking skills are average, needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively is where Sturgeon shows best through a balanced approach. Swing path is level with power showing best to the pull side due to long swing. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, CJ has time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
