11/11/2012 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Clay is a left-handed pitcher with a solid change-up, that will graduate in 2014. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes from the high 3/4 arm slot with loose/quick arm action, and smooth rhythm. When everything is working together, he throws a lot of strikes with good control. He stays in line to the dish, with a sound landing. While getting to a good balance point, he fails to separate on-time, and his shoulders are slightly uphill. His finish is decent, however, he finishes too upright and has a tendency to fall off. His fastball hit 76 MPH and his curve-ball has good 1/7 shape and is thrown effectively when he gets out in front. His best off-speed is his change-up that has sink and sits from 66-69 MPH. Offensively, he has a square/athletic setup, on-plane swing path, is on-time, and displayed spray ability. Clay needs to loosen his grip and keep his hands high with a more relaxed body, tense muscles are slow muscles. Overall, we believe Clay projects well on the mound as a LHP with some ability to throw a lot of strikes and change speeds.
