Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Codey is a C/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Opening Day Classic. Behind the dish, Codey receives with a strong glove and replaces his feet to throw. He is efficient moving to block and covers up well. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance with his hands held high. He works to barrel up the baseball and shows great gap to gap power. On the mound, Codey operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph. Breaking ball sits from 56-60mph with 11-5 break. Overall, Codey is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

11/21/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Codey is a strong/solid (6'4"/245), R/R catcher who showed well on the diamond. Behind the dish, this defensive specialist sits in well with rhythm and athletic actions. He works hard laterally to body up / center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Transfer is clean with accurate throws down to 2B - pop times at 2.28. With the bat, this RHH displays a square setup with quiet/simple actions he works back into a loaded position. Hands are quick as he connects with strength and hits the ball where it's pitched. More power potential is there as he works to engage and drive his full lower 1/2. Johnson has tools with upside as he approaches his senior season.

10/18/2019 - 2019 UA SoCal Classic Underclass Participant Big strong player. Has a very good idea of what he wants to do at the plate. Good, compact swing that produces. Power to both gaps and the ball jumps off his bat. Solid defender with skills that definitely play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
