Official Scouting Report

05/23/2010 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Cody worked out in Tampa in the OF only, and showed many improvements in his game. Defensively, Cody works behind the ball well and has life out his hand. He fields the ball in good rhythm, uses proper hops, and has an above average, very accurate arm with carry. Shortening his exchange will only help defensive grades further improve. Cody's defensive grade improved from 48 to 50. Offensively Cody showed improvements in his hitting and power grades. They both improved from 45 to 48 and 42 to 45 respectively. Cody has a balanced / quiet approach and good barrel accuracy. He has pull side pop and can also work the ball up the middle of the field. A quicker bat and more use of his lower 1/2 should help hitting numbers further improve.

02/07/2010 - College PREP - Bradenton (Tampa), FL Cody participated in the PVP in Bradenton, FL at 3 positions, 2B, OF, and on the hill. He is a young, athletic, player with potential to play multiple positions at the next level with added growth and physical maturity. In the INF, Cody has very good hands and footwork. He fields the ball out in front, has good range, and a clean exchange. A looser front leg and more aggressiveness to the ball could help INF grades further improve. In the OF, Cody has good footwork, hands, and overall athleticism. He has good OF mechanics, plays behind the baseball, and has a good overall idea of the position. Cody's throws have life and carry on them, and with less steps to throw, and a better finish, OF skills could further improve. On the mound, Cody FB touches 81 MPH and he is around the plate with his pitches. Cody has a tight 11-5 CB, which he can throw for strikes. He has a good idea on the hill, his windup is balanced, and he shows some potential as he gets older. A longer arm action, more wrist snap, and a softer landing foot could help Cody's abilities on the mound improve.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Cody is a young 2B / SS with a solid average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is near above average as indicated by his 7.15 60 time and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active an aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays displaying solid average defensive abilities. Arm strength is solid average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate Manzella has solid average abilities with slightly above average power through a balanced approach. Swing path gets long due to him trying to hit all balls out front. He needs to let the ball travel, keeping hands inside the baseball to utilize all fields. He was 5 for 9 with 2 2B at the event. With 2 years to further develop, Cody has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
