07/31/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 1 Cody is a young , 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound and at 3B with a tall, solid, and athletic looking body that is well suited for both positions. Currently, he projects best at 3B. Foot speed is well below average and he must get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Glove action is presented out front showing soft, clean, and sure hands in making the plays. He displays athletic actions showing near above average defensive abilities at 3B. Am strength is near above average showing life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are solid average through a balance approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, flashing bat speed. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Swing path gets long with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-78 mph on a slight downhill plane creating tough angles on hitters. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying downward tilt and tight spin. Changeup shows solid feel for with sinking action. He challenges hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Upp has an upside and could develop into a solid two-way player at the next level.
