01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Neal-Tan improved foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.75. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He shows a low approach on ground balls as he plays through well. Offensively, Colby continues to shine as he lets the ball travel, taking a direct path to ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing with the ball jumping off his bat when centered and is now a class 3 type player.

12/20/2009 - College PREP - Agoura Hills, CA Colby is an athletic OF who again had a solid workout 12/20/09. In the OF, he moves well, has a quick transfer, and a solid crow hop. He has plus arm strength and flat out knows how to play the OF position. Colby runs well, and could become even quicker with a speed/agility workout as he makes the transition into College baseball. Offensively, Colby has good balance, bat speed, and rhythm. He has a quick bat, and gets good extension to and through the baseball. He has good barrel accuracy and has pull side power. Colby is a player to watch now and in the future as he continues to grow and become stronger.

09/13/2009 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Colby continues to show improvement with his overall baseball abilities, as shown by improved hitting and power grades. He only hit while he was at this event. At the plate, had smooth stroke as he threw the barrel to hitting zone. He attacked balls with excellent bat speed and barrel accuracy. Ball explodes off the bat with excellent power. Stayed balance throughout swing. Had decent lower half explosion which can still improve with more hip rotation. He put on a show during his round of batting practice.

12/14/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Colby is a strong, athletic OF who demonstrated good knowledge of how to play the OF and the ability to hit. In the OF, showed good preliminary movement and was aggressive to ball. Had athletic actions with ability to play thru ball. Showed the ability to get behind fly balls. Had loose arm action. By staying on top of ball, will help eliminate any arm-side run. A stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, had good setup with square stance to pitcher. Showed good pre-pitch load with ability to throw barrel and attack ball. At times, would wrap bat at beginning of swing. Utilizing the lower half appropriately will help develop more power.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
